COUNSELLING and Coaching in Brighton & Hove and Online

"Working together with curiosity & compassion."

Welcome to Anisha Charania Counselling & Coaching

Welcome, and thank you for visiting. My name is Anisha and I provide counselling and coaching for adults, teenagers and children in Brighton & Hove and online.

About Me

I am a qualified Integrative Humanistic Therapist (PGdip) and a registered member of the B.A.C.P. (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). Since qualifying in 2015, I have worked with adults, adolescents & children presenting with various challenges. I have extensive experience of working with trauma, attachment & parenting difficulties, anxiety, loss, identity & relationships. Over the last ten years, I have been inspired by the courage and openness brought by my clients to the sessions and hope that I can reflect this back to them.

Since qualifying I have worked alongside many adults & young people through support & educational organisations including As You Are, Brighton Met College and Touchbase. I have a special interest in trauma & attachment and how this gets played out in everyday functioning, parenting and in relationships. A lot of this work has been with those who have been adopted or are in care. As well as being a private clinician I also work as a school counsellor for YMCA Dialogue which I have been doing since 2013, working in Secondary and Primary Schools across Brighton & Hove. I have also delivered training to adults on self-care in the workplace.

Before becoming a therapist, I ran a theatre company in London, working in schools and also with vulnerable and/or socially disadvantaged groups of young people and adults. The work was based around all issues of equality & diversity including racism, sexuality & disability. Inclusivity is very important to me and so I encourage and welcome enquiries from all backgrounds. I have also worked with many individuals with anxiety, autism and ADHD and, where possible, can make reasonable adjustments to meet your needs.

Sober Coaching

Three years ago, I qualified as a sober coach to help support adults who are curious about stopping or moderating their alcohol consumption. I believe that everyone has their own unique relationship with alcohol and I work without judgement using counselling & coaching to find out what has brought you to question your own drinking and how we can work together so you feel supported and encouraged. I use my own experiences, resources and education around the benefits of becoming alcohol-free. I am passionate about this work and constantly learning myself about the benefits and the impact of alcohol on our thinking, our health and our relationships. Sober coaching is for grey area drinkers who are sober curious and not for those who are physically dependent on alcohol, where giving up may endanger their health. If you are unsure, please see your GP.

Both my counselling and coaching work is Person-Centred & DDP informed, using P.A.C.E: playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy (Dan Hughes). I also use psychoeducation and solution-focused thinking to help clients better understand their feelings and behaviours and find strategies and resources to help them move forward.

Life can present us with challenges that are overwhelming, leaving us feeling lost, anxious or stuck and often, alone. Talking therapy offers a safe and confidential space to explore these difficulties, gain clarity and develop strategies to start making positive changes.

As well as using talking therapy, I use creativity to support communication such as drama, art and play. I find this is a great way to work with young people but I also invite adults to use this as a tool for expression and discovery. This is always an invitation and not an expectation and the majority of my work with adults is through talking, listening and collaborating.

To me, therapy is about respecting each person’s unique experience, actively listening to them and ensuring that they truly feel they are being heard and understood. This is not about me being the expert but about me understanding your own unique point of view and working with you over time to feel happier, healthier and more connected to those around you.

What issues can therapy help with?

People come to me for help a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through therapy:

Problems with confidence or self-esteem

Anger management

Issues relating to sexuality

Difficulties at work or in retirement

Feelings of stress or anxiety

Panic attacks

Relationship problems

Grief, loss or bereavement

Problems with addiction

Trauma and post-traumatic stress

Abuse

Fees & Sessions

I offer both short and long-term therapy and can work online or in-person. Sessions last 50 minutes and the cost is £65 a session, payable each week. If cancellations are made with less than 48hrs notice then the full fee is payable.

I offer a free initial consultation online or by phone. This is informal and confidential and doesn't commit you to ongoing counselling. In this I can find out your reasons for wanting counselling, explain a bit more about how I work and can answer any questions you may have. Should you decide to go ahead, I will send a simple form to fill in and schedule our first session.

Sober Coaching

Sober coaching can be online or in-person and is £60 for a session of 45 minutes. I suggest a minimum of 12 weeks and payment can be made weekly OR you can pay £660, in advance, for 12 weeks, giving you a total saving of £60.

The coaching is tailored to suit your individual needs and is offered to those curious about sobriety and not those heavily dependent on alcohol where giving up may be damaging to your health. Please see your GP if you are unsure. We will have a free 20 minute consultation beforehand to determine your suitability to this kind of therapeutic work.
